AccessCNY Participant Andrew Baum to Graduate from Syracuse University

AccessCNY’s Community Habilitation program provides a unique opportunity for its participants to develop essential skills needed to achieve independence. Many people with developmental disabilities have been told more than once throughout their lives that independent living is impossible for them, but AccessCNY disagrees. We believe that everyone is capable and deserving of achieving their goals, and that with the right support system, anything is possible. AccessCNY’s dedicated staff is that support system for Central New Yorkers all over the region, including participant in our Community Habilitation program, Andrew Baum.

Baum was excited to discuss AccessCNY’s Community Habilitation program, describing the ways the program has supported him in living his life to the fullest and nurturing ongoing independence. This has resulted in major wins in Andrew’s life, including his ongoing employment at Syracuse City School District as a substitute food service worker and enrollment as a student at Syracuse University.

“The program [Community Habilitation] is helping me achieve my goals and giving me the freedom I need to work on my life skills, social skills, and skills development.”

When asked about how AccessCNY staff has supported him on this journey, Baum enthusiastically stated that staff are “so knowledgeable and incredible” and he “couldn’t ask for a better support team.”

Baum is on track to graduate from Syracuse University’s Inclusive U program on May 9th, an achievement he has been working toward with the help of AccessCNY’s programs, services, and staff for a significant period of time.

“I feel so honored and blessed to have AccessCNY Community Habilitation services in my life. […] I would recommend AccessCNY to anyone. They won’t let you down. They will support you in so many ways you can’t even imagine.”
