AccessCNY Partners with Community Library of DeWitt & Jamesville to Open Provisions Express

In August the DeWitt Community Library moves to a new home and becomes the Community Library of DeWitt & Jamesville. In addition to new space for collections, meetings and the community, the library will also feature a café. Provisions Express will open in the library and be operated by AccessCNY.

Provisions, located in Syracuse’s Armory Square is a non-profit bakery and restaurant where lives are changed. The bakery is a supported work program of AccessCNY for individuals with a mental health issue. The Express location marks the bakery’s first expansion since opening in 1988.

“Our vision for the new library has always been about meeting the needs of the community,” said Wendy Scott, Executive Director. “As we designed the space we knew we wanted it to be a community hub and what better way to bring community together than with freshly brewed coffee and delicious baked goods. To know that the coffee and cookies being served help someone with a mental health issues get back on their feet made this partnership with AccessCNY a win-win.”

“Provisions is a signature program of AccessCNY and we are thankful to the Community Library of DeWitt & Jamesville for this opportunity,” stated Paul Joslyn, Executive Director of AccessCNY. “At Provisions every chocolate chip cookie that comes out of the oven does more than satisfy a sweet tooth; it provides a path to recovery. Every order is a stepping stone to reducing the stigma of mental health issues. Provisions Express will allow AccessCNY to train even more individuals and move them towards greater independence.”
