Hole-In-One at AccessCNY’s 25th Golf Classic

“Holy Cow! I’ve never won a car before,” were the first words out of Jim Menter’s mouth when he realized what had happened at the AccessCNY Golf Classic. Menter, the owner of Voss Signs of Manlius, NY, plays in a lot of local golf tournaments each year. However, he has never gotten a hole in one before.

Every golfer’s dream became Menter’s reality as he watched his tee shot soar 167-yards on the 8th hole at Lake Shore Yacht & Country Club in Cicero. It was a great shot that became a perfect one, as the ball landed and found its way to the hole.

“It took just minutes for word to spread about the hole-in-one,” said Prudence York, Executive Director of AccessCNY. “In the twenty-five years that we‘ve hosted the Golf Classic no one has ever scored a hole-in-one. The club professionals at Lake Shore were surprised too; not only was this the course’s first hole-in-one during a tournament, but it was for a car none the less. What a way to commemorate the silver anniversary of the tournament!”

The hole-in-one prize was sponsored by Burdick Chevrolet Buick & GMC. After the tournament, Jim worked with Burdick to replace his GMC Denali truck with a new model. “The guys at Burdick are fantastic,” said Jim. “I can’t say enough about how accommodating they were throughout this process.” Jim’s new truck was delivered over the weekend and he’s excited to customize it with Voss’ signature bright yellow decals. Another notable accessory in the truck is the now legendary golf ball, which Jim says he will always keep in the truck, for good luck.Photo 2_web

The Voss Signs team also won first place in the AccessCNY tournament, along with the skins contest. Menter and his teammates generously donated their winnings back to the agency. Voss has played in the AccessCNY tournament for the past several years to support the agency’s services for individuals with disabilities.
